Brian McFarlane, industry co-chair of the Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council, commented:
“The Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council (SOWEC) welcomes the announcement of a further £150 million investment in Scotland’s offshore wind sector in the Scottish Budget 2025-2026. With investment of over £25 million to s support the energy transition, creating jobs across the supply chain, Scotland is well positioned as a global player in the production of green energy. This pivotal funding has the potential to transform Scotland’s supply chain, ensuring we have the skills and infrastructure required to speed up delivery of offshore wind projects. This is currently being demonstrated through work carried out under the Strategic Investment Model, which has already assessed and prioritised component manufacturing facilities and key ports for building and servicing offshore wind projects.
“Aligned with the Scottish Government’s Green Industrial Strategy, the net zero and energy budget announcements ensure SOWEC can continue its efforts to work collaboratively with the public sector and industry to coordinate and grow offshore wind development in Scotland.”
