GWO Training

The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) is the industry body for world wide training standards. It is a non-profit body founded and owned by its members all of whom are international wind turbine OEMs and wind developers.

Their aim is to provide training and safety standards that ensure an injury free work environment in the wind industry both on and off shore. The GWO organisation's headquarters is based in Denmark but it has a global footprint and international presence.
All employees in the wind industry are required to have the GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) but turbine technicians also require Basic Technical Training (BTT).

The five modules of the GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) course are:

    • Mechanical -The aim of this module is to enable the participants to be able to perform basic mechanical tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician.
    • Electrical - The aim of this module is to enable the participants to work safely with electricity under supervision in a wind turbine environment.
    • Bolt Tightening - The aim of this module is to improve the safety and quality of bolt tightening using energy powered tools and accessories in the wind industry. This module covers both how to tighten bolts safely and correctly, and how to plan, document and review of bolt tightening tasks.  The module prepares participants for company specific bolt tightening training, through scenario-based training.
    • Hydraulics - The aim of the module is to enable the participants to carry out basic hydraulic tasks, supervised by an experienced technician.
    • Installation - The aim of this BTT Installation Module is to enable the participants to work safely with basic installation tasks under supervision in a wind turbine environment.

The GWO has over 500 certified training providers worldwide. Below is a list of certified providers and training centres in Scotland arranged by city in alphabetical order.
